All our therapy sessions are individualized and 1:1 with a registered/licensed occupational therapist. A qualified hand therapist will evaluate, establish, and implement an appropriate treatment plan to address conditions affecting the hand and upper extremity.

Common Diagnoses:

INDIVIDUALIZED EVALUATION

Evaluation may include an assessment of:

  • Range of motion

  • Strength

  • Sensation

  • Edema

  • Pain

  • Wound status

  • Scar

  • Soft tissue

  • Fine motor/dexterity

  • Functional outcomes

  • Provocative testing

INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT

Post operative care:

  • Management of wounds to facilitate healing and prevent infection

  • Control hypertrophic or hypersensitive scars

  • Control scar tissue formation to prevent soft tissue contractures

  • Safely advance patients through postoperative protocols

Rehabilitation:

  • Increase range of motion, strength, and functional hand use

  • Patient education of joint protection, energy conservation, and pain management

  • Sensory and neuromuscular re-education, biofeedback, and desensitization

  • Edema, soft tissue, and scar mobilization

  • Kinesiotaping

  • IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization)

  • Breast cancer care (pre/post surgery and radiation)

  • Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) – skin care, manual lymph drainage (MLD), compression bandaging/garments

  • Home Exercise Program

  • Physical Agent Modalities (ultrasound, laser, e-stim (TENS, NMES), and cryo/thermal modalities

  • Ergonomic consultation

UPPER EXTREMITY ORTHOSES

  • Custom fabrication of low temperature thermoplastic orthoses for a variety of upper extremity acute and chronic conditions (static, dynamic, and static/progressive)

  • Serial casting for finger contractures

  • Silver ring splint measurement and fitting

  • Consultation and/or dispense of prefabricated orthoses
